Penang, Malaysia – Phuket, Thailand & Colombo, Sri Lanka

Penang was a port change so without a shore excursion we joined with some cruise friends and negotiated a taxi for the day and took off to explore a batik factory, Buddhist temple, and Chew Jetty where people live on stilts over the water so they don’t have to pay property taxes!

In Phuket we traveled to the Khao Phra Taew National Park for an eco-hike. And what a hike it was! Up a hill and over rocks, over and under trees, and through a stream to see a waterfall.

Our time in Colombo stared with an “Easy Colombo bus tour”. We saw city sites with a few stops at a Buddhist temple and a a hotel for afternoon tea. In the afternoon we met up with the CEO of the Sri Lanka YMCAs who is a Dutch Burgher (a combo of Dutch and Sri Lankan descent) and he took us on a private tour of the Colombo YMCA a few of the Dutch city highlights.

City souk, Lotus Tower, Snake Charmer, & Buddha.
Colombo YMCA, tuk tuk ride with Fabian & oldest Dutch church in Sri Lanka.
